Building Bangalore’s first ‘School of Future’
Bangalore, November 02 , 2016: The Indus group and University of Glasgow, UK today announced a first-of-its kind collaboration where the institutes will come together to foster closer harmonization of research activity. To mark the beginning of this collaboration, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between ITARI (Indus Training and Research Institute) and University of Glasgow in the presence of eminent personalities from academia and the corporate world.
Reputed as one of the best institutions for teacher education in the UK, the University of Glasgow is a member of the prestigious Russel group of research intensive UK universities. It is one of the UK’s top earners of research income with a total earnings of over Pounds 180 million per year and has a base of over 2,000 active users. It is also one of the founding members of Universitas 21, an international grouping of universities dedicated to setting worldwide standards in international education. It’s alumni include 6 Nobel Laureates who have won this prestigious award in various streams. The University of Glasgow is also ranked among the top 1% of World Universities globally.
Today there is a coming together of academia, industry and even of school ,ideas are beginning to germinate in schools. As per the MOU, Indus Training & Research Institute and University of Glasgow will collaborate on joint research projects on technological solutions and pedagogical interventions in the areas of teacher education, leadership and curriculum development as well as assessment to support schools of the future.. Path-breaking innovation in the education sector is fueling collaborations that are transforming the entire teaching and learning process in classrooms and beyond.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt. General (Retired) Arjun Ray, PVSM, VSM, and Chief Executive- Indus Trust said “Academic rigour is being redefined to include critical competencies such as innovation, critical thinking and entrepreneurship. The current education system in India systematically discourages innovation. We believe that the reform must be driven by a new purpose of education, an education that prepares a student for life, a life that is volatile, uncertain, chaotic and ambiguous. This is the vision on which the foundation for the School of the Future is being laid”
The panel discussion on ‘The Role of Technology in the Schools of the Future’comprising Prof. Dipankar Chatterjee, Professor in Molecular Biophysics Unit of Indian Institute of Science; Dr. V Raghunathan, CEO at GMR Group and reputed author; and Prof. William Cushley of the University of Glasgow will discuss Virtual and Augmented Reality, Gamification, Robotics, Blended Learning and how these technologies will transform education and learning.
According to a Mc Kinsey report remote learning, massive open online courses (MOOCs), and other digital systems could have an economic impact of $60 billion to $90 billion a year by 2025 thanks to higher productivity among a larger number of skilled workers. India could have about 24 million more high-school and college-educated workers and 18 million to 33 million more vocationally trained workers by 2025 as a result of digitization in the education sector.
With a keen focus on research, Indus Training & Research Institute is exploring ways to collaborate with Universities and Corporates on the use of technologies to foster innovation in education.
