TELEMEDICON 2016: A LAUNCHPAD for Digital Health Startups Inviting innovative business models and strategies

4th November 2016, Bangalore: Telemedicine continues to play a disruptive role in changing the way remote patient monitoring services are provided. Today it’s fast becoming a field where start-ups are shaping the trend with new age technology innovations with the likes of  mobile health apps, Internet of Things (IoT), wearable’s, analytics, Big Data, cloud services, artificial intelligence and decision support systems etc.

Launchpad is a platform for such enterprising start-ups to showcase their business models, strategies, and innovations. It is being organized as part of the 12th International Conference TELEMEDICON 2016, scheduled to be held on 12th November 2016, in Bangalore. Launchpad will give the start-ups a good exposure to CXOs, technocrats, policy makers and the medical fraternity at large.

Health Apps are setting new benchmarks The digital health market is poised for mercurial growth with more players getting into the industry every day.
• The number of health apps for mobile phones: 165,000
• The estimated number of downloads of health apps in 2015: 3 billion
• % of applications that are for patients with chronic diseases: 48%
 • 54% of health care providers have 2-10 apps in their portfolio, 30% have developed only 1 app, with 16% having more than 11.

Analysing trends on the business side, Dr. Siddhi Ghatwal from Teleradiology Solutions shares “the last 50 months have seen 345 deals across segments with Service delivery and Pharmaceuticals accounting for over 60%. This period has also seen more than $6.78 billion of investment across segment with Service delivery and Pharmaceuticals accounting for over 70%.”

“These 345 deals split as 87 pre-seed and seed investments (less than $1.3Million), 137 investments at Series-A and B stages (between $1.3Million and $12Million) and 111 at Series-C and beyond (greater than $12Million). Across tech-led services and IP led products the most active investors are Eight road, IFC, NEA, Norwest, Sequoia, Accel, Qualcomm, Samara and TPG growth,” Dr. Ghatwal further adds.

The TELEMEDICON 2016 conclave is being held for the first time in collaboration with the American Telemedicine Association (ATA) and will focus on four broad themes revolving around digital health—Digital Health Practice, Digital Health Technology, Policy & Legal aspects of Digital Health, and Business Models in Digital Health.
