Dr. Steven Edwards, Co-Founder, Global Schools Alliance, will be visiting GSA’s only partner in India-Vega Schools on 19th March. Throughout his thirty-five year professional career, Dr.Edwards has published numerous articles on school reform and leadership, and has co-authored five books, which address school reform initiatives and leadership development and has been an advisor to the White House on education policy and structuring.
During his visit, Dr. Edwards will be holding a special session for parents across the community and will take them through the unique ‘Project based learning’ methodology which incorporates immersive learning enabling better learning outcomes and fosters 21st century skills amongst students.
The Global Schools Alliance, a collaborative effort by some of the best schools in the world,connects child-focused innovators with like-minded educational institutes around the world by sharing research, support, and peer critiques with the goal of revolutionizing education and institutionalizing child-centred learning.
Additionally, it also stresses on creating a common 'global' definition of success for children in the 21st century, and implementing it in their respective curriculum, regardless of their location.
The project based methodology has a major inclination towards sparking curiosity amongst students by attempting to create real-world problems in a school environment and encouraging children to find practically applicable solutions on a small scale. This session marks the successful integration of a CBSE based curriculum, taught along the lines of PBL.
Vega began with a parent whose child developed an aversion to his school. The parent was denied access to his child's classroom - to understand what might be causing the trauma and terror. The school being one of the highest rated schools in Delhi didn't make things easy, it looked like there were no alternatives!
Therefore, the birth of Vega schools, a collaborative effort by some of the best schools in the world, was to create an Indian member that would be contextually relevant yet progressive.
Vega also values progressive and immersive learning. Progressive 21st century schools recognise that future work environments will demand a different skill set from young people. These skills include leadership, teamwork, strong communication skills, problem-solving, and positive work ethics etc.
