Chennai, 05 June, 2017: Danfoss India, an industry leader focused on climate and energy efficient solutions, today celebrated World Environment Day with a number of initiatives organized for and by its employees. In addition, the company has announced its partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry – Southern Region (CII-SR) for the “CII-SR Water Alliance” pilot project, to restore waterbodies in and around Chennai.

Commenting on the occasion, Ravichandran Purushothaman, President, Danfoss Industries Pvt. Ltd. said, “Food, air and water are vital resources to life in every possible form. It is therefore in our interest that we, as responsible citizens, realize the importance of sustainable usage of these resources. This year, we’re taking a step towards making an impact in all these three aspects within our Campus and outside. With our vision of ‘Engineering Tomorrow’s India’, we are always working towards a greener & sustainable tomorrow, keeping in mind the needs of our future generations.”

World Environment Day 2017 initiatives by Danfoss India include:

• The launch of e-waste collection bins within the Campus • The launch of a new bio-gas plant (installed capacity of 30 kg/day) that will use biodegradable waste collected from the campus. This will help reduce the carbon footprint by 7 tonnes per annum. The digested slurry will be used as organic manure in the Campus gardens  • A Vehicle Emission Check for all vehicles at the campus  • Distribution of 500+ saplings to employees  • A thumbprint pledge where employees were asked to pledge their commitment for a greener tomorrow • Commitment to “CII-SR Water Alliance” initiative for the pilot project

As part of the project, Danfoss will be working towards the restoration of two waterbodies near its Oragadam Campus. This will include various phases like current state analysis, removal of physical debris, desilting, bund strengthening and proactive fencing and periodic review, in association with CII and related subject matter experts.

In 2016, Danfoss employees commenced the cleaning of a waterbody in Vembakkam, a village town panchayat in Kanchipuram District, with the long-term aim of being able to

provide usable water source to the community. Over 1500 tonnes of waste was removed during the clean-up, with combined efforts by Danfoss employee volunteers and villagers. To date, the company also organizes awareness campaigns on a regular basis where residents are educated on the importance of preserving water bodies, waste segregation and waste management.

Danfoss, a member of UN Global Compact has always been committed to the environment and has been undertaking several CSR & Sustainability initiatives over the years. The company holds pride in being the first LEED Platinum rated constructed manufacturing campus in India. Danfoss has been actively engaged in several campaigns and activities that reduce carbon footprints in and around the campus. From a complete organic landscaping at the campus to planting more than 4000 trees, Danfoss has left no stone unturned in developing a green cover and making a difference in the community.

The newly introduced World Environment Day initiatives are just another green step to engineer a better tomorrow.
