Dr. Vishwanath Karad MIT World Peace University, the first of its kind in India inaugurated in Pune

Pune, August 17, 2017: - Dr. Vishwanath Karad MIT World Peace University, the first of its kind in India was inaugurated by Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis in Pune. The inaugural ceremony was followed by a two-day ‘Global Summit Science and Spirituality for World Peace’ which focused on issues of national and international importance and how a different outlook towards education could solve many of them.

On the sideline of the summit, MIT World Peace University honoured Elder D. Todd Christofferson, with the Philosopher Saint Shri Dnyaneshwara World Peace Prize for his "noble mission of spreading the message of peace and harmony throughout the world”.

UNESCO Chair-holder Prof. Dr. Vishwanath D. Karad - Founder President, MIT World Peace University, said, “It was my dream that India should have a university where peace and spirituality would form an integral part of the curriculum, such as MIT-WPU. At MIT-WPU, the mission is to provide holistic education to create complete, well rounded leaders of tomorrow who, besides excelling in their professional spheres would also be ambassadors of global peace. The union of science and spirituality alone will help bring harmony and peace to mankind”

Mr. Rahul V Karad, Executive president of Dr. Vishwanath Karad MIT World Peace University said, “MIT-WPU University is India’s first university in the field of Holistic Education and is an aspirational university for students searching for a world class education. The University is set to create a benchmark by associating with World’s known Scientists, Nobel Laureates, Researchers, Scholars, Academicians, Philosophers, Technocrats and Successful Entrepreneurs. The key distinguishing feature of MIT WPU is its unique curriculum which would include compulsory YOGA classes, rural immersion programmes and study of biographies.

MIT Group, a self-financed institution in the city’s Kothrud area has been awarded the University status by the Maharashtra government. The group has a rich legacy of four decades of pioneering academic excellence with a strong global alumni base across sectors. The launch of the MIT-WPU sees the onset of a new paradigm in the education sector, as students embark on a journey that does not merely give them a professional degree, but aims to transform their lives and reorient them.

The event was graced by Dr. Michael Nobel, Founder of Nobel Sustainability Trust; H.H. Dada J.P. Vaswanji, Spiritual Guru, Sadhu Vaswani Mission, who was felicitated for “99 years of Selfless Contribution to Humanity”; Dr Vijay Bhatkar, Padma and chancellor, Nalanda University and Padma Vibhushan Shri Raghunath Mashelkar, former DG of CSIR. Reputed guests from the fields of Science, Technology, Music, Spirituality, and Education also graced this ceremony.

The conferring of university status on MIT is in a sense a testimony to its unique culture of value based education and the impact it has had on successive batches of students. The University offers various prominent courses including Global Degree Programs in the fields of Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech), Economics, Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master’s Program in Government (MPG).
