Noida, September 27, 2017: The NDDB Foundation for Nutrition (NFN) today celebrated “World School Milk Day” with girl students in Rajiya Balika Inter College, Sector-51, Noida (U.P.). The coveted day was celebrated with the schools girls by providing them milk followed by an interesting awareness session on the importance of milk consumption and adequate nutrition.

“World School Milk Day”, started in 2000 by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, is celebrated on the last Wednesday of September every year. This year, the well-regarded Day is being celebrated as 18th World School Milk Day on September 27, 2017. Countries around the world celebrate “World School Milk Day” to celebrate the health benefits of school milk programmes. Each year, events are held in over 25 countries.

`NDDB Foundation for Nutrition’ (NFN) is a noble initiative promoted by National Dairy Development Board as a trust/society with an objective of improving the nutritional indices of school children in India. Its mission is to ‘provide glass of milk for every child’ to address malnutrition. NFN decided to use the educational infrastructure to help target this concern by adding good quality and safe milk to the buckets of meal for school children.  Currently, NFN has been supplying 200 ml flavoured/ fortified milk to around 11,000 students on all working days in a total of 13 Government schools of Delhi, Noida (UP), Gujarat and Telangana. In Schools of Delhi and Noida, Mother Dairy Fruit and Vegetable (P) Ltd. has been supplying ‘Giftmilk’ under its CSR fund.

The celebration included an awareness session conducted by Dr. Seema Puri, Honorary Member of NFN Board of Governors & Associate Professor, Dept. of Nutrition, Institute of Home Economics (University of Delhi). Dr. Puri was accompanied by Mother Dairy officials and the school administration.

The session, with an interactive presentation, saw participation of approx. 400 students from the school. Dr. Puri, while conducting the school awareness program, talked about how foodstuffs can be categorized, the benefits of various produces and products, the food pyramid, appropriate daily diet and the benefits of milk and milk products. The girl students were also made aware about the importance of breakfast, essential nutrients for growth and overall development along-with the general importance of food and its appropriate consumption. The session was followed by a quiz round wherein the students happily participated with responses pouring in from everyone. A poster competition on “Doodh Piyo, Swastha Jiyo” was conducted towards the end, along with the prize distribution culminating the celebrations.
