Ten Years of Promoting Young Talent in Carnatic Music

Chennai, 18th December 2017: ITC’s Agarbatti brand Mangaldeep and Baala Kalasaagaram Trust organised the 10th Margazhi Festival from Friday, December 15th to Sunday, December 17th, 2017. In line with its rich tradition of promoting young talent, the festival this year presented young talented musicians performing alongside the stalwarts of Carnatic Music. The Chief Guest on the occasion was musical legend Dr. S.P Balasubramaniam, who launched Ramjhi`s Issai Mazhalai December festival ten years ago.

With an impressive line-up of artists, the music lovers of Chennai had an enriching experience with the performance of the greats of vocal and violin musicians. The title of Bala Kala Rathna has been conferred  to Anahita Ravindran and Aoorva Ravindran (Vocal), Sriram Sridhar (Violin) and Sai Subramaniam (Muharsing) for their achievement in the field of Carnatic Music.

The ITC Mangaldeep - Ramjhi`s Issai Mazhalai December festival was started to showcase talented young Carnatic Musicians. The children who participated in this fest ten years ago have over the years grown and matured into successful Professional singers & Instrumentalists. Some of the stalwarts who have been part of the fest in the past years includes Late Dr.M.Balamuralikrishna, Late. Sri. T.K.Govinda Rao, Sudha Raghunathan, Nithyashree Mahadevan, Unni Krishnan, Thiruvarur Bakthavatsalam amongst others.
