Being one of the easiest breakfast options, I end up making Besan chillas quite often at home. Today I'll be sharing a recipe to make simple besan chilla.
To make a basic besan chilla you would need only a few handfull readily available ingredients like spices, some onions and tomatoes. To make your chilla more nutritious, you can also add grated or chopped veggies like broccoli, spinach, cabbage, fenugreek etc.
As I mentioned earlier that Besan chilla is one of the easiest and quickest thing to make for breakfast, as you just need to mix all ingredients and fry it. You can also make these besan chilla for your child's tiffin as they are quite healthy and delicious. It is rich in protein and also aids in weight loss. Besan chillas are a very nutritious snack for diabetics as it's main ingredient is besan which is good for maintaining blood sugar levels and also aids weight loss as it is a low-calorie food.

Ingredients for making Besan Chilla :
1 cup gram flour (besan)
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 small tomato finely chopped
¼ cup chopped coriander leaves
1 small green chili. finely chopped
½ inch ginger finely chopped or grated
½ teaspoon carom seeds (ajwain)
2 to 3 pinches of turmeric powder
¼ teaspoon red chili powder
½ cup water or add as required
salt as per taste
oil as required
How to Prepare Besan Chilla Batter
1. Add the besan in a mixing bowl.
2. Now add the finely chopped onion
3. Add the finely chopped tomatoes
4. Add the chopped Coriander leaves
5. Add the finely chopped ginger
6. Add finely chopped green chilies
7. Now add the turmeric powder, carom seeds, red chili powder and salt.
8. Add water to the besan mixture
9. Use a whisk to mix all ingredients together. You can add little more water if the batter is thick.
10. Mix the cheela batter to have a smooth flowing consistency. Break all lumps while mixing the batter.
How to Fry Besan Chilla
1. Heat some oil on a tawa on a low flame and let the tawa become medium hot. Now with a ladle pour some chilla batter on the hot tawa.
2. Now gently spread the batter in a circular motion with the back of the ladle.
3. Now on a low flame fry the chilla till the top side starts to look cooked.
4. Drizzle some oil on the edges of the chilla.
5. Flip the chilla once the base is slightly golden and cook on the other side.
6. Cook the Chilla till you see it turn slightly golden.
7. Serve the besan chilla hot along with some chutney or ketchup. These chillas taste best when consumed hot. You can also store them in a casserole to be served later.
