IPL 2020: Top Predictions for Orange Cap & Purple Cap Winners

There is only a little over a week left for the Indian Premier League 2020 to reach its exciting conclusion. A picture as to who will make it to the playoffs is beginning to emerge - Mumbai Indians have all but cemented their position in the final four with the field, theoretically, still open for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, and Kings XI Punjab.

Amidst all of this excitement, people are also keeping an eye out for the top batsman and top bowler, also known as the bearers of the coveted Orange Cap and Purple Cap.

KL Rahul Leading the Way for Batsmen

KL Rahul of Kings XI Punjab has been absolutely phenomenal in this year’s IPL. In the world of IPL online betting, it comes as no surprise to see him get picked up, time and again by the punters in the hopes of making a quick buck. Whether it is scoring a half-century or bagging most runs for the Punjab side, he has delivered on many instances and taken his time through to decisive wins.

He currently leads the race for the Orange Cap with 595 runs in 12 matches played. Averaging at 59.30, his high score stands at 132 not out - the highest in the league this season so far.

Punjab’s hopes of making it to the playoffs are hanging by a thread - should they fail to qualify, KL Rahul will need to do all he can to ensure that the Orange Cap remains his.

It may not be that difficult, especially considering that trailing at the 2nd place in the race is Shikhar Dhawan of Delhi Capitals with 471 runs. Now, the Capitals should be able to qualify for the deciding matches, giving Dhawan more games to play and beat Rahul’s score. Of course, it heavily depends on his form during these games, if he fails to click, the crown goes to Rahul.

Below him are the likes of Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis, trailing well behind by a margin of over 170 runs. Suffice to say, it will take a couple of massive innings for these guys to catch up the leaders.

It is a Closer Race in Bowling

Coming to the Purple Cap, things have been far more interesting here. Two bowlers from Mumbai Indians are already in the fray - Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult with 17 and 16 wickets respectively. However, leading the table there is Kagiso Rabada of Delhi Capitals, with an impressive 23 wickets in 11 innings.

With best bowling figures at 4/24, he has been among the most efficient bowlers in this year’s IPL. The second in the list is Mohammad Shami of Kings XI Punjab with 20 wickets.

If Delhi manage to reach the playoffs, Rabada can very well cement his position as the Purple Cap winner, provided he continues to play in the same vein. After all, it is just 3 wickets separating him from Shami and 6-7 wickets between him and the likes of Boult and Bumrah.

There is so much talent here that one game can flip this race around. Boult and Bumrah, both of them have had a four-wicket haul in the league this season and can certainly get it again.

If not Rabada, our money would be on either Boult or Bumrah to take the Purple Cap.
