    In the year 2008, she took first place at the Junior Nationals in Jalpaiguri, India. From 2007 Dipa Karmakar has collected an impressive 77 medals (including 67 gold) at state, national, and international competitions. She was a member of the Indian gymnastics team that competed at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in 2010. In February, Dipa Karmakar represented Tripura at the 2011 National Games of India. She earned gold medals in the all-around and in each of the four events she competed in: the floor exercise, the vault, the balancing beam, and the uneven bars. 

    The Produnova vault, which has a difficulty score of 7.00, helped Karmakar win a bronze medal in the women's vault final at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in July, due in major part to her performance. Her average two-vault score was 14.366 out of a possible 15. Dipa Karmakar was the first Indian lady to win a gymnastics medal at the Commonwealth Games, and the second Indian overall, following Ashish Kumar, to do so. This vault is a combination of a front handspring onto the vaulting horse and two front somersaults off the vaulting horse in artistic gymnastics.     Dipa Karmakar was injured by a knee injury for the majority of the second half of 2017, having sustained it while training for the trials for the 2017 Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
