It was as a member of Patti LaBelle & The Bluebelles that Sarah made her first appearance on the music scene. Sarah Dash went on to become a member of Labelle and to perform as a singer, session musician, and sideman for The Rolling Stones and Keith Richards.
In the Mid 1960s when she shifted to Philadelphia she reconnected with fellow adopted Philadelphian Nona Hendryx, as well as Philadelphia natives Patricia "Patsy" Holte (a.k.a. Patti LaBelle) and Sundray Tucker. "The Ordettes" was formed in 1961 as a result of the disbanding of a rival girl group. Hendryx and Dash decided to join Holte and Tucker in the group. In 1961, Tucker was overtaken by Cindy Birdsong and the quartet was renamed The Bluebelles in 1962. After Holte was informed to use the stage name of Patti Labelle, the group changed their name once more to Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelle. "
