In 1978 (Seattle SuperSonics), 1979 (Seattle), and 1981 (Houston Rockets), the Lakers were knocked out of the playoffs by the team that ended up winning the Western Conference.Nixon, however, was an integral part of the Showtime Lakers' NBA championship wins in 1980 (4–2) and 1982 (4–2), both of which were played versus the Philadelphia 76ers. During the playoffs in 1982, Nixon was the squad's leading scorer.Before the beginning of the 1983–1984 season, Nixon was transferred to the San Diego Clippers in return for the draft rights to guard Byron Scott.
