Her age of 12 made her the youngest player to participate in Olympic table tennis, and she was the fifth-youngest individual to participate in the modern Olympics. Hend Zaza was the youngest competitor at any Olympics as of Beatrice Huştiu, who represented Romania in figure skating at the 1968 Games. In 2016, she travelled to Qatar with her elder brother to participate in the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) "Hopes Week and Challenge," where her potential was acknowledged. She is a member of the Al-Muhafaza Table Tennis Club in Damascus, where she has won multiple titles at every level, including hopes, cadets, juniors, and seniors, among others. Hend Zaza is the first Syrian to participate in Olympic table tennis via qualification.
The Tripartite Commission extended an invitation to her compatriot Heba Allejji, who participated in the 2016 Summer Olympics. Zaza, a 12-year-old girl, defeated Lebanese player Mariana Sahakian, 42, in the final game of the West Asia Olympic Qualification Tournament in Amman, Jordan, to earn a spot at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Hend Zaza together with Ahmad Hamcho equestrian competitor, carried the Syrian flag in the Parade of Nations at the opening ceremony of the 2020 Olympics.
When she started competing in the women's singles table tennis competition on July 24, 2021, she was beaten in the preliminary round by Liu Jia aged 39 who had earlier participated in every Summer Olympics from 2000. The final scores were 11:4, 11:9, 11:3, and 11:5.
After getting selected for the 2020 Summer Olympics Hend Zaza was invited to train in China by the Chinese Olympic Committee.
