First Construction Council Announces Nominees for CWAB Awards 2018, North Region

New Delhi, July 26, 2018: The First Construction Council today announced the nominations from the North region for 13th Construction World and Builder Awards (CWAB) in New Delhi. CWAB Awards are organized every year by the Council to honour key stakeholders of the construction world.

This is the first time that the council is recognizing architects, builders and interior designers in India based on regions. The nominees from northern region are Aishwarya Tipnis Architects; ANB Consultants; Atrium Design Studio; ATS Infrastructure Limited; M3M India Pvt. Ltd.; Omaxe; Aspire Designs; Chromed Design Studio; rat[LAB) amongst others.

Pratap Padode, Founder of First Construction Council, said, “Through this initiative, we aim to recognize the emerging talent in the regions and appreciate their efforts in the real estate industry. One of the key drivers of new real estate demand for many cities has been their inclusion in the ‘Smart city’ program by the Government. While the real estate industry is making progress in development of smart buildings and infrastructure, it is critical to understand how these developments will align with the smart city ecosystem.  The advances in technology will also dominate the next era of innovation in construction and building.”
The announcement was followed by a panel discussion between industry leaders from the region. Some of the panelists included - Lipika Sud, Dikshu Kukreja, and Pradeep Jain amongst others. The panel discussed upon the buyer preferences in the North, the real estate market; role of design and planning to meet buyer requirements; and what's trending - innovative and smart building technologies that meet buyer needs.

Lipika Sud, Owner Lipika Sud interiors said, “Today’s generation is actively downsizing their living spaces due to nuclear families. Millennials are keen on functionality and minimalistic design to keep a clutter-free home. They no longer want the Italian marble or the fancy chandeliers, but rather sustainable design ideas. They are more and more conscious of the time, energy and expense that go into the upkeep of living spaces.”

Discussing upon the role of technology in the real estate development these days, Pradeep Jain, Chairman, Parsvnath Developers, added, “Consumers are demanding “technology friendly” spaces which mean lots of outlets and charging stations. Homes being designed are compact as millennials are known to not fancy long commutes and stay close to work. Tailor-made homes are being designed for young people who are not too fussy about things.”

The panelists also agreed on how today’s customer is smart and not apprehensive to make investments at an early age. Dikshu Kukreja, owner Kukreja associates said, “Customers believe in living a quality lifestyle and do not mind spending a little extra on their homes.”

Speaking about the CWAB journey, Falguni Padode, Co-founder, First Construction Council said, “The model started with a simple ceremony in 2006. In 2011, the awards took on a theme – one year ‘green’, one year ‘youth’, one year ‘glocal’, and so on. In 2016, with the SMART moves made by the Government and growth in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities gaining ground, we reached out to projects across the country and added a whole new category: NOTEWORTHY PROJECTS, and with that, a whole new process as well.”

The series of events cover East, West, North and South regions. The winners from all four regions will be announced on September 12th in Mumbai at the CWAB 2018.

Bhavana reddy in concert Presenting “Bhama kalāpam” - A traditional Kuchipudi Dance Drama

on 31st august, 2017 At Kamani auditorium, New Delhi

From 7 pm onwards

The present form to Kuchipudi style was given by Saint Siddhendra who is regarded as the father of the Kuchipudi dance. He initiated the Brahmin families of Kuchipudi village into this type of dance tradition and made them vow that every one of its male members would play the role of Satyabhama at least once during his lifetime.

Saint Siddhendra’s“Bhamakalāpam” has become famous and popular without which a Kuchipudi dance performance is deemed incomplete. Satyabhāma, the most amorous consort of Lord Krishna, is the heroine of this dance number and is a ‘SwādhinaPathika’ (or a hero-in-her-grip type of) heroine. BhamaKalāpam is probably the only dance-drama among the Hindu lore of lover lyrics that the role of Krishna is practically absent and Satyabhaāma renders the entire number with the assistance of her handmaid. And a full story is told.

Raja Radha Reddy traveled to Kuchipudi village and Eluru in Andhra Pradesh to learn this ancient tradition of BhamaKalāpam from their guru VendantamPrahladaSarma. Mastergaru had a distinct style from other gurus that displayed perfection in poise, gait, technique and abhinaya. The duo spread this beautiful and sacred dance-drama for decades giving breathtaking performances, wowing audiences across the world. This tradition now lives on through their daughters and disciples.

Bhavana Reddy will be presenting BhamaKalāpam.

"Besides Kuchipudi, her ‘virasat’, she has also acquired intensive training in both Carnatic vocal music and Western music, her big love.   A tight grip on rhythm, stage and light décor, and equally importantly, the confidence that a good performer needs to make the stage her very own, are her other assets. I have no doubt that in time to come, she will bring gloss to the name of her parents!".....................................Shanta SerbjeetSingh (Former Chairperson, APPAN International & senior dance critic)

Based in Delhi, Bhavana, is an acclaimed Kuchipudi Dancer, younger daughter and disciple of legendary dancing couple Padmabhushans Drs. Raja Radha Reddy and Kaushalya Reddy. Bhavana began training in Kuchipudi and Carnatic Music as early as 4 years into her life. At age 5, she was declared a dancing prodigy touring USA, Canada, Europe, UAE and South East Asia. She has performed dance for International Prime Ministers, Prince of Wales, and countless dignitaries and for prestigious festivals such as Khajuraho, Konark, KalidasSamaroh (Nagpur), Sadler’s Wells Festival (London), Bengal Classical Music Festival (Dhaka). She has received commendable response worldwide receiving accolades such as the YFLO Young Women Achievers Award, Femina North Powerlist Award and Lifetime Award for Contribution to Kuchipudi Dance by Telugu Cultural Association, Austin Texas.

After graduating with a B.Com (Hons) from Lady Shri Ram College for Women New Delhi, Bhavana migrated to Los Angeles, California to pursue an Associate of Arts Degree in Vocal Performance and Independent Artistry from Musicians Institute, Hollywood. She has a unique knack to understand, churn out and thrive simultaneously and authentically in the polar opposite worlds of traditional classical Kuchipudi dance as well as western contemporary music. Currently, she is pursuing her careers in the two and continues to learn Kuchipudi under her illustrious parents and Carnatic music under the tutelage of Dr. K. Vageesh.

Sri M’s book ‘The Journey Continues’ launched in New Delhi This work is a sequel to his best selling autobiography Apprenticed to the Himalayan Master’

New Delhi:  An overflowing hall, packed through the aisles, clapped and cheered as Dr. Karan Singh, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha unveiled  “The Journey Continues”, the eagerly awaited sequel to author and spiritual guide Sri M’s autobiography at the India International Centre on Thursday.

The launch was followed by an engaging dialogue with Sri M, who kept the audience enthralled with his fascinating accounts of spiritual encounters and near surreal experiences. The book is a sequel to Sri M’s widely read and critically acclaimed bestseller Apprenticed to a Himalayan Master.

Sri M’s book ‘The Journey Continues’ launched in New Delhi This work is a sequel to his best selling autobiography Apprenticed to the Himalayan Master’

Under the gentle probing of journalist and author Sudhamahi Reghunathan, Sri M touched on a wide range of subjects, including the fascinating issues of rebirth and astral travel that he has recounted in his book. “When the mind becomes still with practice, the natural ability to recollect the past, including even past lives becomes a possibility. To validate my thoughts and recollections I make it a point to go and verify details of locations and local historical facts of my past life, wherever possible,” he said.

He said the purpose of writing the book was to enable an expansion of consciousness and help people understand that there are realms beyond those ordinarily perceived by the limited five senses.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Karan Singh shared, “I met Sri M 20 years ago and have remained closely associated with him ever since. I applaud him for his very enlightened narratives that make all his books instant best sellers.” He added that he held Sri M’s commentaries on the Upanishads in very high regard.

The Journey Continues traces the evolution through many lifetimes of Sri M, a yogi with profound knowledge of the Upanishads and deep personal insights, born of first hand experiences with higher levels of consciousness. While the earlier book dealt with his extra ordinary life experiences and spoke of the metamorphosis of the young Mumtaz Ali into Sri M, the sequel opens up greater vistas of consciousness and credibly questions the parameters and limits of modern science.

Comprehensive in style, spiritual in content, yet written in spellbinding fashion, The Journey Continues brings hope to humankind through the narration of the fascinating spiritual experiences of its author. The book creates awareness of a world beyond limited human understanding by recounting Sri M's encounters with great yogis including Sri Guru Babaji and Maheshwar Nath Babaji, besides providing glimpses into his past lives.

As a social reformer, educationist and spiritual guide, Sri M’s discourses weave together multiple strands of society, not confining himself to Yoga and the Upanishads alone. He quotes extensively from the religious traditions of Buddhists, Christians, Sufis, Jews and all other faiths.

In furtherance of this endeavor, Sri M has traversed 7,500 kms on foot across the country from Kanyakumari to Kashmir touching the lives of more than 10 million

Indians and bringing to them the unifying message of their common humanity through the inspiring Walk of Hope. The 15 month walk, successfully completed through 2015-16, sought to spread peace and harmony for a better India and a better future for the younger generations. Earlier this year, to spread the same message in Europe, he took the Walk of Hope to Berlin, Germany and The Hague, Netherlands.

Sri M’s Satsang Foundation in Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh, runs The Satsang Vidyalayas, providing free, high quality, multi lingual education for tribal children from rural areas and the Satsang Swasthya Kendra to provide free medical services for the poor. Two other recent initiatives of the Foundation include Mythri, a large-scale re-forestation programme, and the setting up of a medical centre for the needy on the 1outskirts of Bengaluru.

Sri M has also started a Sarva Dharma Kendra on the outskirts of Bengaluru to facilitate dialogue between religions and help in underlining their essential unity. The Foundation hopes to establish many such Kendras across the country.

After the announcement of the new initiative at the book launch, Sri M inaugurated the Chanda Satsang Vidyalaya at Garh Mukteshwar in Uttar Pradesh on Friday, the 30th of June. The school will be run under the aegis and format of the Satsang Vidyalaya in Madanapalle providing free quality education, following the organic play way system of learning and serving a nutritious mid-day meal to all the children.

Sri M says, “A real temple is a place where people are served. It is much more than a place where they light lamps. All that is necessary but this service is the most important worship that a human being can do.”

Smartphones may be the leading cause for brain tumor in adults, say doctors at Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, New Delhi

Smartphones may be the leading cause for brain tumor in adults, say doctors at Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, New Delhi

New Delhi, 21st June 2017: With instant access to text messages, emails, social media, games and practically everything else we could want, the obsession with cell phones is starting to resemble an addiction among youth in Delhi-NCR. People use their phones when they are walking, driving, hanging out with friends, waiting for a bus, standing in line, and even using the restroom!

Unfortunately, this cell phone radiation has the ability to penetrate our bodies and cause untold damage. Cell phones emit a type of radiation known as radio frequency radiation (RFR), which is also used to transmit wireless internet signals. This is different from ionizing radiation (such as from X-rays), which is known to cause damage to human DNA and cancer. As we observe World Brain Tumor Day this year, Doctors at Indian Spinal Injuries Centre say that extensive use cellphones and other electronic gadgets could be acting as a major risk factor behind the increasing incidence of brain tumor and other types of cancers in the city.

“In 2011, the World Health Organization (WHO) has classified cell phone radiation as a possible 2B carcinogen. Handheld cell phones emit potentially harmful radiofrequency (RF) waves. Tissues nearest to the cell phone antenna absorb this wireless energy, which can result in several types of neurological issues including neoplasm, acoustic neuroma, glioma, and increase the risk of various types of cancers. Unfortunate but true, cell phone radiation has the ability to penetrate our bodies and lead to brain damage. Apart from that, over-use of cell phones also affects overall energy levels, attitudes, emotional and psychological behavior, and body metabolism,” says Dr  A K Sahani, Head of Department, Neurology, Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, Vasant Kunj New Delhi.

The carcinogenic effects of mobile phone radiation have been well-documented now, and that they can accelerate development various neurological diseases is also explained clinically. As cell phones usually are held near the head when being used, the main concern has been whether or not they might cause or contribute to tumors in this area, including malignant (cancerous) brain tumors such as gliomas, non-cancerous tumors of the brain such as meningioma, acoustic neuromas, and tumors of the salivary glands.

“There are many factors that affect the amount of RF energy to which a person is exposed, which include whether you use the speaker mode on the phone or a hands-free device while on a call, the distance and path to the nearest cell phone tower, among others. Different phones give off different amounts of energy. While the most effective method of protection from cell phone radiation is completely avoid, this may not be possible always. We must encourage healthy usage for every electronic gadget, and mobile phones in particular, to allow the body to stay in the real world, establish natural sleep patterns and last but not the least help in reducing the risk of getting brain cancers early, “adds Dr  A K Sahani

Here are few other tips to make safe usage of your cellphones:

SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) ratings of mobile phones are nowadays available by different manufacturers. Buy one with the lowest SAR.

Limit your daily mobile phone calls to ones that are absolutely necessary. Make use of your office landlines, if required.
Do not keep cellphones in your pockets or very close to any vital organs in your body. Switch sides and ears regularly while communicating on your cell phone.
You should choose to text instead of calling, whenever possible.
Use your earphones whenever you speak to someone, and preferably an airtube headset.

Switch to flight mode when you are not using your cell phone’s wireless function.

Avoid using cell phones a couple of hours before going to bed and as soon as you wake up.
