Hawassa, 20 June 2017: Silver Spark Apparel Ethiopia PLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Raymond - the leading manufacturer, marketer and retailer of worsted suiting fabrics & ready to wear apparel, today inaugurated its Greenfield garment manufacturing facility in Ethiopia. Set up at Hawassa Industrial Park (HIP), with an investment of over INR 100 Crores, this foray is in line with the Group’s ambitions to increase its presence across International markets. This state of the art garment manufacturing facility that will primarily cater to United States of America and European Markets was inaugurated by His Excellency the Prime Minister of Ethiopia Mr. Hailemariam Desalegn along with Mr.  Gautam Hari Singhania, Chairman & Managing Director Raymond Ltd.
Expected to generate employment for over 2500 people in the first phase, the commissioning of this unit will pave way for incremental job opportunities going forward. The workforce employed in this unit will be duly up-skilled by the highly experienced expatriate team from India.

This capacity expansion will mark Raymond’s entry amongst the Top 5 Leading Suit manufacturers in the world. Raymond has a notable presence in Garment manufacturing through its four expansive facilities in Bengaluru, Karnataka, since 2003 and has earned the trust and respect of its consumers. Mumbai, 6th December 2016: Khadi & Village Industries Commission, Ministry of MSME, Government of India inked an exclusive partnership with Raymond Ltd, India’s leading Textile & Apparel Company. This first of its kind initiative explores synergies between two iconic Indian brands that boast of Make in India legacy and represents the rich cultural heritages of India. In the august presence of Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, Chairman KVIC Shri Gautam Hari Singhania, Chairman & Managing Director, Raymond Ltd., the agreement was signed by Ms. Usha Suresh, CEO, KVIC and Mr. Sanjay Behl, CEO Raymond Ltd.

This will be a big leap for KVIC having accredited Raymond to use the ‘Khadi Mark’. Speaking on this partnership, KVIC Chairman V.K. Saxena said, “Inking an agreement with Raymond for value added marketing of Khadi is an act of integrating rural industry with urban industry, which in other words is the socio-economic unity of nation’s creative diversity. This is a historic agreement where a major fabric producer like Raymond will promote Khadi. In line with the Prime Minister’s vision, this agreement is going to bridge the urban-rural divide. The best of India’s minds and resources should work for the poorest and rural have-nots. This therefore is a humble gesture of KVIC in this direction.”

Reckoned as ‘Fabric of the Nation’, Khadi is a symbol of self – sufficiency and independence that played a major role during the freedom struggle of India is a standing testimony to the nation’s economic liberty and dignity. Commenting on the association, Gautam Hari Singhania, said, “In the Indian context, spinning charkha has always been a symbol of self-reliance & it gives me an immense pleasure as Raymond now has Khadi – a true Indian fabric as a part of its product portfolio. In our quest to remain committed towards ‘Make in India’ initiative and aligned with Honorable Prime Minister’s vision for Khadi, this is a defining moment as this association with KVIC will create multiple employment opportunities and will empower the artisans, especially women in rural India.”

This initiative is conceptualized under KVIC Act that permits it to promote the sale and marketing of Khadi or products of village industries or handicrafts and forge links with established marketing agencies through the PPP mode. Under this convergence, Raymond has agreed for a guaranteed minimum procurement of Khadi and Khadi products for a period of 5 years with primary purchases of muslin cotton and silk.

Branded as ‘Khadi by Raymond’, a mélange of Indian ethos and latest trends is sure to position Khadi as a viable fashion fabric. As a part of this strategic association, Raymond will also bring in the design interventions at Khadi manufacturing clusters across the country along with providing technical expertise. Additionally, Raymond will procure all India Khadi varieties from departmental sales outlets of KVIC for OTC sales as well as crafting readymade garments for its apparel brands.


Elaborating on this strategic initiative;

Usha Suresh,  CEO KVIC said, “KVIC is committed to the cause of enriching the livelihood of its khadi artisans. It has taken several steps for improving marketing of khadi products including the introduction of the Khadi Mark. All genuine khadi products shall bear the Khadi Mark. To promote khadi as a global and a fashionable fabric, this partnership with Raymond will provide khadi a niche among the fashion conscious global Indian who is also a genuine lover of hand spun fabric."

In line with the Hon. Prime Minister’s vision of promoting ‘Khadi for Fashion’, this initiative will ensure that Khadi is positioned as a fabric of choice through multiple communications and promotions reaching out to the discerning consumer. Additionally, Khadi Logo will be displayed inside the Raymond stores through visual merchandising, where Khadi products are displayed. Currently, Khadi is being marketed by Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan’s stores as well as through the sales outlets run by the institutions financed by KVIC and KVIB.  

During the occasion of signing this agreement, Sanjay Behl said, “There is an evolving trend of customer’s preference shifting towards natural fibers over synthetic blends. Khadi is a perfect solution offering the widest array of natural fibers, which are also hand spun and hand woven. With this association, it is our endeavor to position Khadi by Raymond as a true Indian fashion fabric globally. Raymond will offer a wide array of fabric blends and garments spanning across Khadi suits, jackets, shirts and trousers, in line with international design and quality trends.”

Khadi by Raymond products will be available at KVIC outlets, The Raymond Shops across India and leading ecommerce portals.

On this occasion Mr. Gautam Hari Singhania donated charkhas for project Sahyog, whereby unemployed spinner women are provided with livelihood opportunities by KVIC.

Over 700 cyclists participate in '"The Smart Commute 2015"

Mumbaikars cycle to reduce the city's carbon footprint, this World Environment Day
 
Mumbai, 05th June 2015: “The Smart Commute 2015” powered by Raymond concluded today at Sofitel, Mumbai – BKC. The Cycle2Work (C2W) initiative saw over 700 cyclists participate from 7 different start-points from Mumbai & Navi Mumbai. This initiative, held on World Environment Day inspired, encouraged and motivated Mumbaikars to take to the streets and cycle2work.

Firoza Suresh, Founder, Cycle2Work (C2W) presented 3 cyclists with high-end Firefox & Tern cycles worth Rs 25,000/- for taking part in the smart commute project. Mr. Ramdas Kadam, Environment Minister of Maharashtra and Mr. Rajiv Patil, First Mayor of Vasai & Virar were also present at the event to show their support towards this initiative.

This initiative urges one to look beyond the health and environment benefits and take this ride to reduce the carbon footprint, making our city a better place to walk, bike, live and breathe! The endeavour is to create awareness and educate the citizens of Mumbai about the benefits of cycling to work.

Cycle2work announces ‘THE 4th SMART COMMUTE’ powered by Raymond

Mumbai, 02nd June 2015: ‘Cycle2Work’ (C2W), an independent effort introduced by Project Green Mile (PGM) for the city of Mumbai, today announced its “4th edition of The Smart Commute.” For the last 3 years PGM has undertaken this initiative to inspire, encourage and motivate Mumbaikars to take to the street and cycle2work.

The 4th Smart Commute event will be held on ‘World Environment Day’ - 05th June 2015. This initiative urges one to look beyond the health and environment benefits and take this ride to reduce the carbon footprint, making our city a better place to walk, bike, live and breathe! Our endeavour is to create awareness and educate the citizens of Mumbai about the benefits of cycling to work.

The Smart Commute project will very shortly be launching a range of alternate eco-friendly lifestyle products made completely out of bicycle inner tubes, where the new mantra is not just to recycle but to make a tangible difference in the quality of our environment. Also, part of this project will be the smart commute app that will be developed for all the commuters.

Speaking on the occasion, Firoza, Founder, Cycle2Work, said, “After a tremendous response from the participants and corporate houses last year, PGM decided to promote the Cycle 2 Work culture. This is merely the start of what we hope will be a longer-term cycling boom. To give our commuters a real time experience, we are organizing the event on World Environment Day - June 5th, 2015.”

Ashok Datar, Chairman, Mumbai Environment Social Network (MESN), said, “The C2W initiative is a commendable step in making our beloved city of Mumbai cleaner and greener. We believe that by making greener lifestyle choices, we can not only raise awareness but hopefully encourage more citizens to switch.”


Ms. Madhu S. Dutta, Head of Marketing - Raymond, the presenting partner for the event, said, “This will be our 2nd year of association with the Cycle2Work initiative as we believe in promoting better lifestyle amongst our employees and what better way to do so than cycling to work. Raymond in association with The Woolmark Company introduces Spring Summer collection

Keeping up with its commitment to propagate Wool as an all-weather fabric in India, Raymond – the leading manufacturer, marketer and retailer of worsted suiting fabrics over the last nine decades along with The Woolmark Company – the global authority on Wool, launched its latest Spring Summer collection designed especially for Indian summers. The launch ceremony held at the Australian High Commission was a grand soiree that witnessed attendance of some of the biggest names in the world of fashion and glamour. While eminent fashion designers Rajesh Pratap Singh, Timothy and Suket Dhir showcased exclusive line of garments, Bollywood heartthrob Neil Nitin Mukesh walked the ramp as the Show stopper for the event.
