New mobile app provides a fast and convenient way for customers to pay for in-store purchases and earn Stars through their My Starbucks Rewards™account

Tata Starbucks Private Limited today introduced the Starbucks® India mobile app across the country, giving customers a fast and convenient way to pay for in-store purchases and earn Stars through the loyalty program using their mobile device. The move makes Tata Starbucks the first major retailer in India to offer customers a mobile payment option linked to a loyalty program and further expands Starbucks robust global digital ecosystem.

Available for download on iPhone® and Android™ devices, the Starbucks® India mobile app offers customers the convenience of paying for their favorite Starbucks beverages with their mobile device by scanning a barcode linked to their registered Starbucks Card. Customers can also  register multiple Starbucks Cards onto their account within the mobile app.

In addition to mobile payment, the app allows customers to register for the My Starbucks Rewards™ program, earn Stars, track and redeem their rewards, manage their accounts, and gain access to new product information and promotions, all within one convenient app.

India June 27, 2016 – In a meeting at the iconic Starbucks Reserve® Roastery and Tasting Room in Seattle, Washington, chairman and chief executive officer of Starbucks Coffee Company (NASDAQ: SBUX), Howard Schultz, and chairman, Tata Sons Limited, Cyrus Mistry, announced multiple new joint initiatives last week which expand the existing Tata and Starbucks relationship and strengthen the companies’ commitment to developing the Tata-Starbucks brand and building a different kind of company in India.

For the first time, Starbucks will offer a single-origin coffee from India in the U.S., giving customers from outside the country a unique opportunity to experience a rare, small-lot coffee from the Tata Nullore Estates located in the beautiful Coorg coffee growing area of India. Starbucks Reserve® Tata Nullore Estates will be the first coffee from India to be roasted at the Starbucks Reserve® Roastery and Tasting Room and will only be available at this Seattle location later this year.

“These announcements build upon the incredible success and shared values between Starbucks and Tata in our partnership in India,” said Schultz. “We are humbled by the way in which customers in India have embraced Starbucks elevated coffeehouse experience, which now spans to more than 80 stores across six cities. As we continue on our journey with Tata, we are delighted to introduce the finest coffee from India to a new audience. Starbucks Reserve® Tata Nullore Estates, the first ever Starbucks Reserve® coffee sourced exclusively from India, highlights the deep coffee heritage and expertise of both companies to source, roast and distribute the finest-quality arabica coffees and elevates the story of India coffee for our customers."

Starbucks also announced plans to increase its coffee roasting capacity for supplying its stores in India and, over time, select markets around the globe. Since Tata Coffee Limited opened its doors to a roasting and packaging plant in Kushalnagar in Coorg, Karnataka, in 2013, this facility has steadily increased its roasting capabilities. Today, it roasts Starbucks® India Estates Blend and Espresso Roast coffees and will soon expand to include both Kenyan and Sumatran coffees for Starbucks stores throughout India. This builds upon Tata and Starbucks commitment to cultivate a future supply of high-quality, sustainable green coffee from existing and potential sources in India through world-class agronomy practices.

Starbucks Soars to New Heights

Starbucks also announced it will soon take flight on Vistara, India’s fastest growing full service airline, later this year. Starbucks' fresh brewed coffee service will be exclusively available on all Vistara flights. A joint venture between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, Vistara operates more than 457 flights weekly to 17 destinations across India and, in June, celebrated the milestone of flying two million travelers.



A New Tea Experience

Building on the sustained success of the tea category in Starbucks U.S. retail stores, Starbucks will extend its Teavana specialty tea brand to India this December with unique bold and customized flavor combinations. Like its industry-leading green coffee sourcing practices, Starbucks and Tata are committed to promoting sustainable tea practices and are collaborating on the development of a signature Indian tea blend that will be available across all Starbucks stores in India.


Expansion of Himalayan Water Program

Starbucks also plans to expand the availability of Himalayan Mineral Water, bottled by Tata Global Beverages, beyond Starbucks stores in India to Singapore later this year, as the companies explore opportunities to introduce the bottled water brand to stores across Starbucks China and Asia Pacific region. Himalayan Mineral Water is bottled at the source from a pure and pristine underground moving stream aquifer at the foothills of the Shivalik range in the Himalayas. This aquifer is one of the largest and purest sources in the world, providing a perennial source of natural mineral water.


Creating New Pathways to Opportunities 

A core value for both Starbucks and Tata is using their scale to change lives for the better. Today, Howard Schultz and Cyrus Mistry committed to come together to provide young people in India with valuable skills training over the next five years through Tata STRIVE, an initiative which empowers India’s youth with skills for employment, entrepreneurship and community enterprise. Since launching in 2014, Tata STRIVE has supported approximately 43,000 youth to-date. The joint partnership combines Tata STRIVE’s expertise in providing job skills training and Starbucks expertise in retail operations, which is expected to impact 3,000 disadvantaged youth in India.

This campaign is based on making consumers appreciate the need to make distinctive choices and thereby, create personalized experiences in their daily life. The campaign #MyMood #MyStarbucks is centered around empowering the customer to explore a world of possibilities through customizations for their every mood. UAE, April 6, 2016 Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and President of Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU), the university launched the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Social Smart Learning initiative (Cloud Campus) across 27 Starbucks stores in the UAE in support of the Year of Reading initiative. Under the directives of H.H. President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, the UAE has declared 2016 as the Year of Reading to foster a culture of learning and knowledge sharing in the country. H.E. Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of State for Higher Education and H.E. Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Police and General Security in Dubai and Chairman of the University’s Board of Governors, led the numerous dignitaries who attended the main event at Starbucks-Jumeirah Drive-thru. 

The joint initiative between HBMSU and Starbucks aims to reach hundreds of thousands of learners a month. It complements the ongoing national efforts seeking to produce confident and responsible local leaders who are determined to build a future in sync with the goals of UAE Vision 2021. Cloud Campus hopes to encourage young people to deepen their knowledge and enhance their skills in accordance with the 21st century requirements. The initiative accessible via the internet seamlessly combines social media channels such as YouTube and Facebook with other modern technologies that are popular among various social groups.

HBMSU and Starbucks collaborated for the pioneering initiative as part of their respective Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs focusing on transferring and enriching knowledge in the UAE. Both parties aim to help hurdle learning obstacles, offer opportunities to facilitate easy access to information, and enhance the teaching and learning processes through the aid of the latest technological tools. By using (Cloud Campus), Starbucks clients can have a free and direct access to a virtual library for a wide array of interactive resources, including more than 5,000 illustrated lectures as well as references and educational courses in business, science, and creative and professional skills.

H.E. Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim said: “The launch of HBMSU’s initiative across UAE Starbucks branches falls in line with the vision launched by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to transform Dubai into a smart city. Dr. Al Awar also pointed out that the initiative complements the Year of Reading 2016 initiative, saying both are based on the government’s goal of producing qualified, intellectual, and culturally competent generations with outstanding scientific skills. “These generations will help lead the country in its march towards excellence and position the UAE as the world’s leading knowledge center.” Additionally, he reaffirmed HBMSU’s commitment to provide communities with best educational tools and resources to further increase the citizens’ employability in adherence to UAE Vision 2021’s goal of building a ‘competitive economy led by knowledgeable and innovative UAE nationals.’

HBMSU’s Social Smart Learning initiative (Cloud Campus) is an interactive educational platform developed to disseminate knowledge using 60-90 minute videos and micro-learning methodology. The platform includes more than 5,000 courses and 170 learning materials covering various professions and topics to enhance digital skills. The courses are given under the supervision of a team of experts and academics who are committed to provide round-the-clock support. The learners business skills can be further improved through its 10 program offerings in leadership, entrepreneurship, communication, talent development, operation management, marketing, HR Development, and Islamic banking, among others. Upon completion of each program, a certificate from HBMSU will be issued to them.

Roastery-Inspired Beverages Come to Starbucks Stores

For the first time, Starbucks is bringing two beverages inspired by the Starbucks Reserve® Roastery and Tasting Room to stores in the U.S. and Canada.

Beginning February 16, Smoked Butterscotch Latte and Teavana® Citrus Green Tea Latte will be available in participating Starbucks® stores for a limited time.

When the Starbucks Reserve Roastery and Tasting Room opened its doors in Seattle in December 2014, it was designed as a fully immersive, sensory experience. In the time since the Roastery opened, it has offered customers new ways to explore the art, science and craft of coffee and tea. Customers can try Teavana® teas by the pot and small-lot Starbucks Reserve® coffees using a variety of brewing methods, including Siphon and Chemex.

“The Roastery is experiential,” said Amy Dilger, whose team leads beverage innovation for the Roastery. “People come from all over the world, and they are eager to try something new.”

Smoked Butterscotch Latte

Starbucks new Smoked Butterscotch Latte combines espresso with steamed milk and smoked butterscotch sauce, finished with a sprinkling of smoky butterscotch topping, perfectly crafted to give Starbucks customers new and sophisticated flavors, inspired by the Roastery.

“The smoky flavor balances the subtle sweetness of the butterscotch,” said Christal Canzler, whose team develops new handcrafted espresso beverages for Starbucks. “It acts as a savory ingredient that enhances the coffee.”

Teavana Citrus Green Tea Latte

Teavana Citrus Green Tea Latte is made with shade-grown, micro-ground full leaf green tea and steamed milk, sweetened with citrus mint syrup, and finished with lemon essence topping.

Emily Fazio, whose team develops Teavana handcrafted tea beverages for Starbucks, created the Matcha Basil Mint Latte the Roastery offered last autumn, which inspired the new Teavana Citrus Green Tea Latte.

“Starbucks Green Tea Latte has been a popular beverage in Starbucks stores ever since we introduced it nine years ago,” said Fazio. “We took flavor cues from the green tea and paired it with ingredients like mint, lemon and basil to make it a refreshing and restorative experience.”

Both new beverages are available hot, iced and as Starbucks Frappuccino® Blended Beverages.
