Thus, let's get started with the definition and benefits of waist trainers.

How did waist trainers come into existence?

Waist trainers, which have been popularised by celebrities like Kim Kardashian also have a history. The credit for introducing waist trainers in the 16th century goes to Catherine De Medici, the wife of King Henry 2. Catherine had very weird likings and preferences and she did not like any unfit woman with an obese waist in her surroundings.

This prompted women to find a way to reduce their waist. The initial kind of waist trainers were called 'stays'. As time passed, these stays took the form of corsets in the 19th century. Now we have a modern version of the corset which is popularly called waist trainer.  When you wear it on a daily basis will help you slim down your tummy but you need to also stick to a healthy diet and exercise routine.

How does the waist trainer work?

A waist trainer is a garment that you need to wear around your waist. Then this waist trainer stretches your midsection (waist part) tightly. In this way, it gives a shape to your waist because this stretching and pulling results in a sleek shape. So, the waist trainers give an instant waist reduction but when you remove them your waist will come back to normal shape.

Types of waist trainers

There are mainly three types of waist trainers available in the market. These are:

Everyday waist trainers: The first type of waist trainer is an everyday waist trainer. These types of waist trainers are designed in such a way that you can wear them under your clothing every day.

Steel boned waist trainers: The second kind of waist trainers are somewhat traditional in wear. These are called steel-boned waist trainers. These have leased at the back so that you can tighten them and lose them at your convenience. In this way, they are more flexible than others.

Workout trainers: The third and the most popular type of waist trainer is a workout trainer. These are very different from everyday trainers and are designed in such a way that you can wear them outside your clothes.

Benefits of waist trainer:

Many people believe that waist trainers give you immense benefits. So, let's look at these benefits that you can get from using waist trainers:

Slim body shape (An hourglass figure): The first and the foremost benefit of using a waist trainer is that it gives you a slim body shape. Waist trainers are used for getting an hourglass-shaped body. This hourglass shape is considered as a perfect shape for a woman and to get the same waist trainers are used. Not everyone is comfortable with dieting and regular exercise to get a fit body. But everyone looks for quick solutions. So, waist trainers can come in handy for giving you a slim and sleek shape. They're body shapers that make your tummy seem smaller than your bust and shoulders.

It is fast and easy to wear: Another prominent benefit of using waist trainers that makes it popular is that it is fast and easy to wear. Since it is made like a corset, you can easily wear and remove them. Also, it is a quick method to reduce belly weight. As soon as you wear them, you get a perfect waist shape effortlessly.

Improves your posture: Another significant benefit of wearing waist trainers is that they improve your posture. Since a waist trainer squeezes your waist, you have to sit with the straight spinal cord that improves your posture. But one precaution is that you should not wear them all the time or excessively because it can cause negative effects.

Reduces your appetite: According to a study, waist trainers can reduce your appetite. This can come as a boon for those who want to reduce their weight through dieting. If you are wondering how it reduces your appetite, then this is because these trainers squeeze your stomach and you feel full-stomached. But be careful because it can also have negative repercussions.

Improves confidence: A prominent benefit of using body-shaming tools like these trainers is that they give you confidence. When you wear a waist trainer, you feel a good body shape, which gives you improved confidence.

Postpartum benefits: Another major benefit of using the best waist trainer for women is postpartum. After pregnancy and birth, many women gain waist fat. So, they use waist trainers to get back the original waist shape.

How to choose the best waist trainers for women? (Guide to choose the best waist trainers for women)

Now we have understood what waist trainers are and what are their benefits etc. Thus, the next step and the most crucial step is to know how to choose the best waist trainer for women. So, here's a guide to choosing the best waist trainer for women:

Quality of Fabric: Various factors can affect your choice of the best waist trainers, one of which is the quality of fabric. It is vital to choose the best quality fabric waist trainer so that you don't feel uncomfortable while wearing them. The fabric should be such that it is breathable and durable.

Fitting: The next crucial factor while choosing the best waist trainer is to ascertain your fitting. Since you have to wear it, it must fit you properly. Also, a single waist trainer can't fit different women because of different body shapes. So, you must choose the right size of waist trainers for your body. Make sure to note down your proper fitting before going to buy waist trainers. When you wear a waist trainer that is too tight, it makes difficult to breathe and also it is inconvenient.

You can breathe properly in that waist trainer: Before buying a waist trainer, it is vital to first check its fitting and see if you can breathe properly in that waist trainer. Proper breathing is essential even if you are sitting or doing any other task in that waist trainer. If you are buying a waist trainer and you are not able to breathe properly, then it can cause many problems, thus, it's better that you check at the very beginning whether you can breathe properly or not.

Whether it's comfortable or not: Another major thing to see when you buy a waist trainer is whether it is comfortable or not. Comfort is very essential and you can check the comfort be seen through the following methods:

The position of the hook: If the hook and pin placement is very close, then it can be uncomfortable. The two possible combinations of hooks are left and right side and back and front. Try them both and choose the one that makes you more comfortable.

Boning (support of the waist trainer): There are mainly two kinds of boning: steel and plastic. For the comfort and durability of these trainers, one should switch to steel boning rather than plastic boning. When you use Steel boning and you work out or engage in some physical exercise, it supports your body posture. Most of the Steel boning is normally comes by inner padding to avoid skin inflammation.

Are you feeling any rolling or bulging of hips: Another Pro tip to check the waist trainer's comfort is to see if it gives you a rolling or bulging hip while wearing. Bulging means that even after wearing the waist trainer your waist is bulging out, which is not the right sign. Similarly, if you are experiencing a folding of hips, it means the waist trainer is not comfortable.

These factors can be easily checked if you are buying a waist trainer from a nearby shop but it might be difficult to ascertain these things online. So, if you are buying waist trainers from an online store, make sure that they give you a replacement option.

Basic myths about waist trainer that you should not believe:

There are certain myths associated with these trainers, which are not true and you should not believe them. These are:

It helps in reducing weight: The first myth surrounding waist trainers is that it helps in reducing weight but that's not the case. Although it gives a quick and convenient body shape, there is no proof of its applicability in reducing long-term weight. Some people said that after using these belts their appetite reduces, which helps them to reduce body weight but that's very rare. According to doctors and researchers, a person might feel low appetite while wearing these belts because of stomach squeezing but that can't be effective in reducing body weight. Therefore, this strongly recommends a healthy diet and proper exercise for reducing body weight.

It should be worn during exercise: Another myth and belief associated with waist trainers are that they should be worn during exercise to reduce weight. According to doctors, this should not be done because it can lead to problems in breathing. Since waist trainers squeeze your stomach and restrict the movement of air, it is not at all recommended to wear them while exercising. Since waist trainers are mostly uncomfortable, it is recommended to use only specialized waist trainers and old workout trainers for training purposes.

Wearing it excessively helps: Some people blindly start wearing these waist trainers all the time but they neglect the side effects. It is false that waist trainers should be worn the whole day. If you wear them excessively, there are chances of muscle weakness and back pain. Even breathing problems, cramming of internal organs, digestion problems, rib fractures, etc. can be caused, if they are worn the whole day or excessively. According to research, waist trainers are not even recommended for wear during the night because they can impact your sleep and digestion. Even for pregnant ladies, it is vital to ask their Doctors about wearing waist trainers.

You all know about waist Trainer lets know how you should Use It

Here's a rundown on what you should do about using a waist trainer properly:

  1. Before you begin using a waist trainer, you must read and follow the rules and directions that come with it.
  2. Don't attempt to put one on by yourself if it's the first time. To put it on, take the services of a close friend or any family member of your house.
  3. You should wear one to two hours per day to get your body used to it. Wear it for just a few hours at a time for the first few days to avoid irritation.
  4. It's not a good idea to sleep with your waist trainer because it's so tight. It's possible that you'll have trouble breathing.
  5. The waist trainer you're wearing should be comfortable. otherwise you will find it difficult when you do your exercises.

DE BEERS GROUP PARTNERS WITH UNITED NATIONS TO EMPOWER WOMEN IN ITS DIAMOND PRODUCING COUNTRIES, ACROSS ITS BUSINESS AND IN MARKETING CAMPAIGNS

De Beers Group announced a three-year partnership with UN Women to accelerate the advancement of women across its organisation, in its diamond producing countries and in its marketing.
As a UN Women partner, De Beers has committed to achieving parity in the appointment of women and men into senior leadership roles, investing in women micro-entrepreneurs and STEM students in its diamond producing countries and ensuring De Beers’ brands are a positive force for supporting gender equality through all its marketing campaigns.

DE BEERS INVESTS US$3 MILLION TO EMPOWER WOMEN IN ITS DIAMOND PRODUCING COUNTRIES

Working alongside UN Women, governments and communities in its diamond producing countries of Botswana, Canada, Namibia and South Africa, De Beers will invest US$3 million to advance the prospects of women and girls by addressing key priority areas.

In Botswana, Namibia and South Africa, the programmes will focus on accelerating the growth of women-owned micro-enterprises to enhance the capacity of women entrepreneurs to grow their businesses, increase their income and create sustainable jobs for themselves and their communities. The capacity-building model will be specifically tailored for each country to support women micro-entrepreneurs with business and life skills to enable them to realise their potential and contribute to the economic growth of their communities.

In Canada, De Beers and UN Women will work with, among others, the University of Waterloo to provide scholarships and mentoring to young women and girls from underprivileged communities who want to pursue studies in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
These programmes are in the advanced planning stages and are due to launch in the coming months.
DE BEERS TO TRANSFORM RATE OF WOMEN APPOINTED INTO SENIOR LEADERSHIP POSITIONS

De Beers will also accelerate the advancement of women across its organisation by more than doubling the rate of women appointed into senior leadership roles, achieving parity in the appointment of women and men into senior leadership by 2020.

The commitment to create a step-change in the appointment of senior leaders within De Beers is coupled with a holistic approach already underway and focused on attracting and developing women at earlier stages in their careers wherever De Beers operates across the diamond value chain. A Gender Diversity Steering Group has been established, reporting to the De Beers Group Executive Committee, with involvement from senior women and men across the organisation to meet this commitment, sustain it and build on it through tailored action plans in each part of the business.
Beginning earlier this year, Group-wide initiatives have already included a review of talent attraction and development processes, the rollout of unconscious bias training, the establishment of a senior management-led reciprocal mentoring programme and the review of policies and recruitment guidelines.

DE BEERS TO SUPPORT GENDER EQUALITY IN MARKETING CAMPAIGNS
De Beers’ consumer brands Forevermark and De Beers Diamond Jewellers will leverage the considerable purchasing power and cultural influence of their diamond marketing campaigns to serve as a positive force for gender equality.  The company will work with UN Women to support its marketing teams in shaping creative campaigns that reflect the diverse roles that women occupy in society.

Both Forevermark and De Beers Diamond Jewellers have already begun commissioning new campaigns, due to run later this year and next year, that are inspired by equality and the evolving role of women in society.

BRUCE CLEAVER NAMED A UN WOMEN ‘HE FOR SHE’ THEMATIC CHAMPION
In recognition of De Beers’ commitment to women’s equality, Bruce Cleaver, CEO, De Beers Group, was named a UN Women ‘HeForShe’ Thematic Champion. HeForShe is the UN’s global movement for the acceleration of gender equality and Mr Cleaver is one of eight global Thematic Champions who have committed to implementing policies and actions within their organisation to advance gender equality.

Commenting on his appointment, which was announced by UN Women Executive Director, and Under-Secretary General, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka during the UN General Assembly, Mr Cleaver said: “Improving the prospects for women and girls advances an entire society and organisation, as everyone benefits from the increased diversity of experience, skills and insight that greater representation of women delivers. We are in the early stages of our journey toward gender parity and we know that achieving our goals will require a dedicated and ongoing focus that continues well beyond our initial 2020 target.

“Diamonds hold a unique place in marking the most precious moments in the lives of millions of women around the world. At De Beers we believe it is our responsibility and privilege to stand with women, to lead in the pursuit of equality and to give even deeper meaning to the diamonds they are proud to wear and pass on to next generations.”

Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women, said: “We are delighted to have De Beers Group on board as a UN Women partner. Hormonal changes and stressful contemporary life can cause migraine in women

By Dr Mukesh Batra, Founder and Chairman Dr Batra’s Group of companies

Hormonal changes and stressful contemporary life can cause migraine in women

More than one-third of Indian women, in the age-group of 20-45, present symptoms of migraine. This is primarily because of hormonal changes and the stresses of a contemporary lifestyle. While the incidence of migraine increases in girls after puberty, approximately 75% women with migraine report headaches associated with their menstrual cycles and/or during the first trimester of pregnancy. The latter seemingly improves during the last trimester.
What actually causes migraine is not yet known, notwithstanding medical progress. Clinical evidence states that it could perhaps be triggered by factors such as enlarged blood vessels and the release of certain chemicals from nerve fibres.

Symptoms of migraine
Ø  Periodic headaches
Ø  Diarrhoea and/or vomiting
Ø  Increased sensitivity to light and noise (sound)
Ø  Visual and auditory disturbances
Ø  Tingling in the arms and legs
Ø  Sleep related problems

Migraine purportedly affects women who strive for ‘perfection’ in everything they do. There is no known treatment for migraine in modern medicines apart from pain killers to suppress the pain. However for such patients Homeopathy offers a sustained care and prevention option.

HEALING WITH HOMEOPATHY
Homeopathy aims to treat the individual having migraine, rather than the disorder per se. This is because no two women with migraine present with the same set of symptoms, emotional sensitivities, or temperament. Homeopathy treats such special characteristics, while looking at the possible triggers. It evidences that a homeopathic remedy that can ‘cause’ migraine-like symptoms in healthy individuals can also be effectively used to treat individuals exhibiting the same, unique set of symptoms.

What distinguishes homeopathy from other systems is no two individuals with migraine are prescribed the same remedy. One individual with migraine, for example, may feel better with a hankie tied around the head; while another may feel worse with it. This calls for the use of two different homeopathic remedies.

In a randomised, placebo (dummy pill)-controlled double-blind study, a group of patients suffering from migraine were treated with homeopathy for over a period of four months. The patients in the placebo group experienced a reduction in their migraine frequency from 9.9 attacks per month to 7.9 per month, while patients in the homeopathic group reported a reduced monthly migraine ‘attack rate’ — from 10 to just 1.8-3.0 per month.

City hospital to have first-of- its-kind Digital Breast Tomosynthesis for women

City hospital to have first-of- its-kind Digital Breast Tomosynthesis for women

Cytecare introduces 3-D imaging technology for breast cancer screening

Bengaluru, August 10, 2017: Breast Cancer has been ranked as the number one cancer among Indian women with age adjusted rate as high as 25.8 per 100,000 women, as per the latest statistics published in the Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Oncology. Bengaluru has ranked third with age adjusted incidence rate of carcinoma of the breast found as high as 34.4 per 100,000 women. Projections for India suggest the number of breast cancer cases will likely go as high as 1,797,900 by 2020. Though there has been an increase in health check-ups among women recently, we can still see that screening is low on priority even in major cities.

Cytecare hospital is the first hospital in the city to introduce Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (popularly known as 3D-Mammography) for women.

Mammography continues to be the only screening test proven to decrease mortality from breast cancer. However, 2D mammography is less accurate in women with dense breasts for whom cancer may be masked by overlapping breast tissue. When a 2D mammogram detects an area of concern, radiologists further investigate with a diagnostic mammogram, ultrasound or biopsy. Looking at the same breast tissue in 3D, the radiologist may now be able to see that the abnormality on 2D mammogram in fact represents normal breast tissue. This avoids further investigation in large number of patients undergoing routine screening.

3D mammography or Tomosynthesis is a special kind of mammogram that uses several low dose x-rays obtained at different angles to create multiple images or “sequential slices” that step through the breast tissue and allows radiologists to see more clearly. The breast is positioned and compressed in the same way as for a 2D mammogram but the x-ray tube moves in a circular arc around the breast. It takes less than 10 seconds for the scan. The information from the x-rays is sent to a computer, which produces a focused 3-D digital image of the breast.

Talking about Digital Breast Tomosynthesis Dr. Mukta Mahajan, Consultant radiologist, Breast Imaging and Intervention said "The most important aspect as a Breast Radiologist at Cytecare Hospital is to spread awareness about personal risk-based screening and extent evaluation of breast cancer prior to planning treatment.

There is no organised national or regional breast cancer screening program in India. Naturally, majority of those involved in women's health are not aware of the available technology and expertise in the field of breast cancer diagnosis. Needless to say, women undergoing screening have little understanding of the tests or the results thereof.

In contrast to the western world, breast cancer incidence is much higher in premenopausal age group (<50 years) in India. As compared to both screen-film and Computed Mammograms (older but most widely used technologies), 2D and 3D Digital Mammography has significantly higher accuracy in cancer detection in younger women and in women with dense glandular breasts. This will have large impact on decreasing the number of women undergoing unnecessary recalls or biopsies. It is most important to avoid anxiety in women opting for screening tests. 3D mammography serves as an excellent problem solving tool and reduces misdiagnoses. Contrary to common practice, ultrasound alone has significant limitations as a screening tool and must always be combined with a 2D or 3D Digital Mammogram. The x-ray dose of 3D mammography is comparable to that of a 2D mammogram. Therefore the cumulative dose of the combined screening is still below the FDA-regulated limit and found to be safe and effective for patient use. I think this technology has greater relevance for Indian women.

Incorporating this aspect Cytecare hospital's breast imaging services are complete with Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT or 3D Mammogram), Full Field Digital Mammogram (FFDM), Stereotactic and Vacuum Assisted Breast Biopsy (VABB). ”

3D mammography has shown to reduce percentage of missed cancers by 15%. More recent studies show about 30% increased 3D mammography sensitivity and specificity compared to 2D Mammography with a recalls reduction in screening by approximately 40%.
