Paul Luchsinger tied the knot with Christian Music singer Susie McEntire on November 27, 1981. She was the daughter of three-time World Champion Steer Roper Clark McEntire. In 1980, Paul and Susie first crossed paths at a reception that followed the National Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City. 

At the rodeo, Reba McEntire, Susie's sister and a country music performer, had sang the national anthem. He was the best in the rodeo, whilst Susie was an excellent country singer. But despite their happy faces and being the perfect couple in public, their marriage was falling apart. The couple divorced on May 19, 2008. The duo had three children together E.P., Lucchese, and Samuel Luchsinger. The Southern Baptist Sunday School Board's Broadman & Holman publishers have launched a book titled "A Tender Road Home," in which the couple tells their tale. Susie married for the second time. Mark Eaton, an American theologian, climber, and public speaker from Seattle, Washington, became her second husband on December 12, 2009. 

Paul Luchsinger passed away on 12 May, 2015 at the age of 59, due to cancer after fighting the illness for 6 years. A memorial ceremony was conducted on Saturday, May 23, at the Trinity Fellowship Church in Sayre, Oklahoma. In accordance with Paul's wish, he made arrangements for the donation of his body to the field of Anatomical Science for the sake of research and study that may in some way be of use to other people. Paul was married to Jenifer at the time of his death, whom he had newly married on April 7, 2015.

At the age of 18, his roommate at Montana State University, Bruce Contway, a bulldogger and tie-down roper, persuaded Luchsinger to give rodeo a try. Paul Luchsinger went to a Walt Linderman steer wrestling school in Bozeman, Montana, in 1976. The following year in 1977, he purchased his permission and began competing full-time as a card holder. He was able to compete in the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) between 1979 until 1981, and 1984 until 1985. He had his finest season in 1981, when he placed 7th in the global rankings.

His commitment to Christ was the impetus for the establishment of Psalms Ministries, which operated from 1984 to 2006.In the years 2005 and 2006, he served as the President of the Oklahoma High School Rodeo Association and also held the position of Vice President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes' Colorado Springs Cowboy Chapter. In 1989, he was a privileged member of the team that traveled to Italy to commemorate Buffalo Bill's challenge to the Italian cowboys on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the event.
